Cancer Companions

Cancer Companions are peer counselors who “get it.”
Cancer Companions understand the difficulties of cancer treatment and they are ready to listen to you.
What is available to YOU:

  • Support group - Our support group meets weekly for about 10 weeks with other people from the community who are dealing with cancer and with 2 team leaders.  Materials used in the support group are provided by the local ministry free of charge.  Support groups are set up on a regular basis, generally one in the winter and one in the fall for a duration of 10 weeks.

  • At the support group, we start by watching an informative video.  The video series follows the cancer journeys of 3 individuals.

  • You can look at the first video on the left side of this page!

  • Discussion follows the video.  The video gives people the incentive to talk about their struggles as they identify with the struggles of the people in the video.

  • One-on-one support - One on one meetings can be arranged as the need arises.

    What happens at a meeting?
Each meeting centers around a different topic: Faith, Questions (of God), Healing, Prayer, Stress reduction, Relationships, Communication, and Healthy Living.
There are 5 readings on each topic that are done in preparation for discussion.  Participants are given opportunity to discuss portions of the readings that they find most interesting or helpful.
Meetings are brought to a close with the opportunity to share prayer requests.  The leader then prays with the group.
